5 Questions That Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension Left Unanswered

The Paranormal Activity franchise, one of this generation's longest-running horror narratives, has come to a close with the release of Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension - a final chapter that Jason Blum assured would answer all our burning questions. Does it?

What Is Toby’s Motive?

OK, so Toby may have been brought to life in a terrible ending, but now that he’s alive, what are his motivations? Assumedly he’ll join back with the cult and whatnot, but does this bring upon the end of days? Or is Toby just one more evil killer ushered into society, who can be vanquished easily now because he’s mortal. Or is he even mortal?

Maybe he’s an un-killable demon who will act like a puppet master, pulling the strings on criminal hatred for years to come? But if he is mortal, why the hell would Toby give up his invisible form to become a fleshy, walking corpse like the rest of us? OK Toby, you’re human – WHAT NOW. Was this entire franchise about mortalizing a demon, and just adding one more bastard to society?

The Ghost Dimension gets so caught-up in delivering the Toby-sized goods, that it forgets to tell us WHY Toby is coming. The cult has a perfect minion to do their bidding in Toby’s paranormal form, so why make him a living, breathing person? I guess you can rationalize at this point that Toby is the actual leader, and he used the coven to invade Earth, but again, I ask why he’d actually WANT that given his invincibility in the first five movies. Frankly, it makes little sense as to why Toby would WANT to become human, and it’s never really explored – Blum’s team just assumed that people wanted Toby, so they gave the people what they might have possibly wanted.

Yeah, I’ll just leave one more “F&ck You” right here.
