3) The Rocketeer (1991)
Before Disney got their hands on Marvel, the House of Mouse’s first dip into the superhero genre was this adaptation of Dave Stevens’ comic character – The Rocketeer.
When pilot Cliff Secord (Bill Campbell) finds a prototype jetpack invented by Howard Hughes, he uses it to save his girlfriend (Jennifer Connelly) from a Post-Bond Timothy Dalton as the Errol Flynn-esque Nazi sympathizer/Hollywood star Neville Sinclair. The result is a bright and good-natured throwback to old time-y movie serials, in a similar way to Indiana Jones.
Directed by Joe Johnston, this ode to the Golden Age of Hollywood shares a lot of similarities with his later work Captain America: The First Avenger. So if you like that one, make sure to take this film for a test flight as well.
