January is shaping up to be a defining month for the Resident Evil franchise across the board. On the one hand, we have the release of Resident Evil 7, Capcom’s back-to-basics horror title that heralds something of a new dawn for the iconic franchise. But for one door to open, another must close – or so the saying goes – and on January 27, director Paul W.S. Anderson will be wrapping up Alice’s story once and for all with the release of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.
Setting aside the super slick, futuristic aesthetic that bled into both Afterlife and 2012’s Retribution, The Final Chapter is out to recapture the bleak apocalyptic look of Resident Evil: Extinction, this time sending Milla Jovovich’s gun-toting heroine back to ground zero itself, Raccoon City.
That’s a journey that underpins the all-new international trailer for The Final Chapter, as we see Alice cross paths with the Red Queen, a state-of-the-art supercomputer designed by the nefarious Umbrella Corporation. Promising a cure for the T-virus along with the chance to enact revenge, Jovovich’s lead then faces a race against time. The question is, can the Red Queen be trusted?
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter storms into theaters across the globe on January 27, 2017.
Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, humanity is on its last legs after Alice is betrayed by Wesker in Washington D.C. As the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead hordes, Alice must return to where the nightmare began – Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse. In a race against time Alice will join forces with old friends, and an unlikely ally, in an action packed battle with undead hordes and new mutant monsters. Between losing her superhuman abilities and Umbrella’s impending attack, this will be Alice’s most difficult adventure as she fights to save humanity, which is on the brink of oblivion.
