A lot was riding on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, after a collection of lackluster releases began to sour faith in the MCU.
In great news for the superhero franchise, the Guardians finale was well received, overall, if its solid rating on Rotten Tomatoes is anything to go off of. Audiences have largely enjoyed the film, despite complaints of heavy-handed depictions of animal abuse, and faith in the MCU is starting to bounce back.
The final Guardians film centers its plot around fan favorite Rocket Raccoon, who takes a near-fatal injury at the start of the flick, and suffers frequent flashbacks to his early days as a science experiment throughout. Those flashbacks acquaint viewers with the High Evolutionary, an unhinged but brilliant geneticist hell-bent on attaining perfection through his experiments. One of those experiments, initially intended as nothing more than a disposable test subject, was Rocket. Rocket was a shining success, whether or not the High Evolutionary intended him as such, and his brilliance and talent is a major plot point in Guardians Vol. 3.
An attempt to insert the most recent MCU flick into the Explain a Film Plot Badly trend went swimmingly for Twitter user @TheRagingWoody, after they provided a surprisingly accurate description of the conflict in Guardians Vol. 3. As it turns out, the film’s plot really can be boiled down to a man getting “really upset a raccoon is smarter than him.”
That’s… honestly a great summary of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 plot. In general, the film revolves around the High Evolutionary’s obsession with Rocket after the still-developing raccoon manages to solve an issue with his process. His impotent fury over the notion that a creature he created could evolve beyond him is clearly the breaking point for the High Evolutionary, and ultimately leads to the majority of the conflict in the movie.
Considering just how accurate it is, @TheRagingWoody’s summary can hardly be defined as explaining a film plot badly. In fact, they mostly just summarized the film plot extremely concisely, but I’m not here to bash their delivery. Even if they missed the “badly” section of the assignment, I can’t help but applaud their ability to break down Guardians Vol. 3 with such precision.
