Last Friday brought the surprise announcement that Katherine Langford had been added to the cast of Avengers 4 during the recent reshoots in an unspecified role. As the 13 Reasons Why actress is an upcoming star, it seems likely that Marvel have booked her in for the long run and her part in this massive production is just the planned first of many. So, with that in mind, who could she be playing?
Well, one common possibility that fans are discussing is that Langford might have been cast as Kate Bishop, Clint Barton’s apprentice and the third Hawkeye. We already know that Emma Fuhrmann has been cast as an older Cassie Lang/Stature in Avengers 4, so it makes sense that another of the Young Avengers would be introduced into the MCU. Kevin Feige has also said that the next generation of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will be seeded in the next few movies.
Given that this is somewhat likely, then, AJ Designs has created an awesome piece of fan art that imagines what Langford could look like in costume as Kate Bishop. The art stays close to the character’s appearance in the comics, too, with an abundance of purple on display, including Kate’s familiar purple goggles.
Of course, it’s far from certain that the actress is set to portray Bishop. Another option is that she’s an older Lila Barton, Clint’s young daughter from Avengers: Age of Ultron. After all, the MCU could easily change things up and have Lila grow up to take Kate’s place and step into her dad’s shoes as the Avengers’ archer.
Another option that’s been reported is that she could be the daughter of Tony Stark and Pepper Potts, as it was teased they were going to have a child in Infinity War. However, that would require Avengers 4 to jump forward by about 20 years. We’ve heard that it’ll skip a few years after The Snap, but surely fast-forwarding two whole decades would be a bit extreme, wouldn’t it?
