When it comes to wrapping up the storylines laid out in the first 20-plus movies in the MCU, Avengers: Endgame has a lot going for it. Somehow, against all odds, the Russo brothers managed to bring together a few dozen key players into one film, all while providing satisfying conclusions for its biggest characters. Still, thanks to all the time travel shenanigans, a vocal minority of Marvel’s fanbase has taken issue with their latest film, arguing that Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely’s screenplay is chock-full of inconsistencies and plot holes, with some going so far as to say that Endgame undoes the events of prior movies.
Thankfully, one fan is here to save the day. Taking to his own website, This Is Barry, one meticulous MCU viewer has laid out the film’s many timelines and plot points, carefully explaining away any potential inconsistencies that some viewers may take issue with. It’s definitely worth reading in its entirety, but we’ve taken the time to point out a few of our favorite explanations below.
- How Did The Past Thanos Get To The Future? – Some fans were left wondering how Nebula brought Thanos into the future. As Barry points out, the Mad Titan and his chief scientist, Ebony Maw, could have easily reverse-engineered the Pym Particles, mass producing them in order to shrink down their army. Interestingly enough, this theory was confirmed by Endgame’s directors.
- How Did Cap Wield Mjolnir? – If you were confused as to how Captain America was able to summon and wield this mighty hammer, all you have to do is turn your attention to Age of Ultron. Years back, Cap was almost able to lift Mjolnir during the Avengers’ celebration party, but he seems to have refrained from doing so after seeing Thor’s anxious expression. So, in other words, he’s been worthy all along.
While there are still plenty of questions to be answered, This Is Barry does a pretty good job of explaining almost everything and those who’ve been feeling frustrated by some of Avengers: Endgame‘s supposed plot holes should definitely give his rundown a read.
