User Farores_winds starts off by observing how the Avengers: Infinity War sequel might well be the last major MCU outing for both Evans and Downey Jr., with Endgame potentially fulfilling the contractual obligations of each star. In-universe, meanwhile, the Redditor points out that Steve Rogers has consistently contradicted his own claim thatWe don’t trade lives” by offering up his own, most notably at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger when he crashes Red Skull’s plane into the Arctic.

While Cap was ultimately ‘reborn’ from his sacrifice in the 2011 flick, he essentially blew his chances for a quiet retirement with the love of his life, Peggy Carter. For Tony Stark, however, a similar happy ending could be on the cards. Indeed, it’s been a long-standing and rather credible rumor that Pepper Potts will have a child in her next film. Moreover, we already know that Gwyneth Paltrow’s character will be entering the fray in her new Rescue persona, and in the heat of battle, it’s alleged Cap may allow Tony to enjoy the peaceful family life that Steve never had when he sacrifices himself to save a pregnant Pepper.

The theory goes on to allege that this sacrifice will give Iron Man the last bit of motivation he needs to defeat Thanos (or whatever the next big threat is), before settling down with his fiancée/wife and their new child. Of course, this is all just speculation for now, and the Russo Brothers could have a very different plan for their next flick, but we’ll find out who gets to make the sacrifice play when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
