Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice Synopsis Revealed

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will be spoiled in its entirety long before the anticipated superhero blockbuster ever sees the inside of a theater. That much seems clear. But Warner Bros. is still methodically teasing out information about the film, dropping an image here, a teaser there and now a rather uninformative synopsis for the film.

With the Licensing Expo due to kick off in Las Vegas tomorrow, a description of the star-studded event pic is making the rounds online, really telling us exactly what we already knew for certain about the story. Take a look:

Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

That lines up with the dark, contemplative tone of the trailer for the film, while also assuring us that the Man of Steel and the Caped Crusader’s early dislike of one another gets settled rather quickly when they have to team up to combat a bigger threat. After seeing Man of Steel (and dealing with the ensuing whiplash), it’s a little difficult to imagine how Batman (Ben Affleck) will pose any threat to Superman (Henry Cavill), or how any other villain could stand in his path, but those are both questions that director Zack Snyder will have to answer.

What’s also confusing about the synopsis is the disharmony of Superman hatred (remember the “False God” graffiti) and the use of the word “revered” to describe him. Is this suggesting that Metropolis civilians start worshipping him, Zardoz style, while the rest of the world looks on with distaste? Or is “revered” just referring to the character’s comic-book roots and less his actual rep in the new film?

Additionally, what is that bigger threat that puts mankind “in greater danger than it’s ever known before?” It’s hard to imagine that Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) could be that threat all on his own, so maybe this is a tease at Doomsday? And where do Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman fit in? Rumors have suggested every possible conclusion to the movie, so who really knows at this point.

Regardless, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 26, 2016, but all will be revealed long before then.
