Despite the recent rumblings at Fiore Films, the biopic of mafia boss John Gotti which is called Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father, is coming together rather nicely. John Travolta is playing Gotti Sr and is joined by wife Kelly Preston, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci, who is still attached to star despite being the cause of those rumblings at the production house. Today we get news on additional cast member, Ben Foster has joined and will play Gotti’s son, John Gotti Jr.
As far as I understand, Foster will be the centre of the drama as the title suggests and all of the action surrounding the Gambino crime family will be seen through his eyes. This is the role that was originally offered to the likes of Dominic Cooper and James Franco, but Foster’s previous history with director Barry Levinson has clearly swayed the decision.
Production on the film begins in January, the film is scripted by James Toback and Barry Levinson, with Levinson in the director’s chair.
