Benicio Del Toro’s first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was bizarre to say the least, but it all started making sense by the time Guardians of the Galaxy was released. As The Collector, the actor stole the show, but will we see him in James Gunn’s upcoming sequel? That’s been the prevailing theory up until this point anyway, but it now doesn’t sound as it’s going to happen.
Talking in a recent interview, Del Toro appeared to make it clear that there aren’t any plans in place for The Collector to show up in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2:
“I don’t think so. They would have told me, I hope… I do hope to play that character again at some point.”
In all honesty, this makes a lot of sense. It’s hard to picture how exactly The Collector could factor into the sequel without it feeling forced, and the door is no doubt going to be open to him returning somewhere down the line regardless (Thor: Ragnarok could be fun after he showed up at the end of The Dark World).
Del Toro will soon be busy with Star Wars Episode VIII anyway, but tell us, are you disappointed that we’re not going to see The Collector in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2?
