Deadline is reporting that David O. Russell‘s upcoming film, The Silver Linings Playbook, is continuing to pick up steam. They’re reporting thatĀ Mark Wahlberg had to leave the film due to scheduling issues and coming on board as his replacement may be Hollywood’s newest A-lister, Bradley Cooper. Even more exciting is the fact that Cooper’s Limitless co-star Robert De Niro is also in talks to join the film.

Rising star Jennifer Lawrence is already confirmed and if Cooper and De Niro were to join, well I’ll let you imagine the possibilities. With shooting starting this fall, I’m sure we’ll hear confirmation on the male leads shortly.

The film follows “a former high school teacher who was institutionalized for depression and then released into the care of his mother. He tries to win back his ex-wife but becomes involved with an eccentric neighbor with problems of her own.”

Cooper was actually attached to the film a while back (with Anne Hathaway set to play the role Lawrence is going to take) but he dropped out. Now he’s back in though and it sounds like he’s close to making it official.

I’m already looking forward to this one, simply due to Lawrence and Russell’s involvement, but if Cooper and De Niro also join, this is going to be one hell of a cast. And to see Bradley Cooper team up again with Robert De Niro, well that would be fantastic. The two played off each other excellently in Limitless and I’d love to see them together again.

This would also be a smart career move for De Niro. Limitless aside, his recent choice of films has been rather weak. He really needs to start getting back into respectable and strong roles that he can truly shine in.

What do you think? Excited to see Cooper and De Niro teaming up again?
