They say life begins at 40. Exactly who they are and their understanding of ‘the game of life’ is up for question, but for Bridget Jones, an unexpected pregnancy and yet another romantic dilemma is enough to spark a mid-life crisis as our endearing heroine attempts to navigate life at forty.
That’s right, Renee Zellweger’s clumsy protagonist is headed back to the big screen later this year via Bridget Jones’ Baby, Sharon Maguire’s long-rumored rom-com threequel that also heralds the return of Colin Firth’s long-time love interest, Mark Darcy.
However, things soon take a turn for the worse for our helpless singleton after crossing paths with Patrick Dempsey’s dashing American, Jack. It’s enough to tee up a love triangle between Firth, Dempsey and Zellweger, as the trio scramble to figure out the identity of the father.
Fortysomething and single again, she decides to focus on her job as top news producer and surround herself with old friends and new. For once, Bridget has everything completely under control. What could possibly go wrong? Then her love life takes a turn and Bridget meets a dashing American named Jack (Dempsey), the suitor who is everything Mr. Darcy is not. In an unlikely twist she finds herself pregnant, but with one hitch…she can only be fifty percent sure of the identity of her baby’s father.
Universal Pictures and Working Title will foster a new love triangle when Bridget Jones’ Baby hits theaters on September 18.
