Bryan Singer And Simon Kinberg Tease A Very Different Take On Wolverine In X-Men: Apocalypse

We've known for a while now that Hugh Jackman will make an appearance as Wolverine in X-Men: Apocalypse, and it was the final trailer for the movie which confirmed that he'll appear in a sequence set in the Weapon X facility. However, based on comments from director Bryan Singer and writer and producer Simon Kinberg, it sounds like this version of the character is going to be in his Beserker Rage Weapon X persona from the comic book. Here's what the former had to say about that.

We’ve known for a while now that Hugh Jackman will make an appearance as Wolverine in X-Men: Apocalypse, and it was the final trailer for the movie which confirmed that he’ll appear in a sequence set in the Weapon X facility. However, based on comments from director Bryan Singer and writer and producer Simon Kinberg, it sounds like this version of the character is going to be in his Beserker Rage Weapon X persona from the comic books.

Here’s what the former had to say when asked about Wolvie in a recent interview:

“What’s really nice about his cameo is that he’s the Wolverine you’ve never seen before. He’s truly Weapon X. Not just the guy coming out of the tank, but the weapon.”

X2 and X-Men: Origins: Wolverine may have shown the character being given his Adamantium skeleton, but we never got to see Logan lose control over the horrors inflicted on him – so it should be a lot of fun seeing that happen in X-Men: Apocalypse.

Kinberg also revealed that the hero’s role was at one point set to be very different than what they ended up going with for the film.

“We talked about a lot of different versions. There was a version where he got introduced in the middle of the movie and became this sort of drill sergeant for the kids, but that felt like it stepped on Raven’s role of becoming the leader to the kids. There were two or three different incarnations that we tried, but none of them felt quite right. As we were constructing the movie, we always imagined that they were abducted and taken [to Alkali Lake] and that Weapon X would be there and you’d see something that you’ve never really seen in these movies before which is the full on, out of control, animalistic, stripped down Wolverine.”

Finally, the producer added that Wolverine and Jean Grey will share a scene in X-Men: Apocalypse, which is definitely something that we’re looking forward to seeing. However, with all those mixed reviews and revealing trailers and TV spots, are there going to be any significant surprises left? We’ll find out when the film is released a little later this month.
