Captain Marvel Novel Teases The Return Of Another MCU Character

With Ronan the Accuser and Korath both set to make appearances in Captain Marvel, it’s clear that the film will have a fair amount of overlap with the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, but if the new book Captain Marvel StarForce Mission Log is anything to go by, then there’s a chance that at least one more character from James Gunn’s 2014 feature could be making a return.

Bleeding Cool reports that the novel written by Eleni Roussos sees Carol Danvers briefly cross paths with a member of the Nova Corps who tells her that his name is Rhomann Dey. As you may recall, Rhomann was played by John C. Reilly in Guardians of the Galaxy, and while we haven’t seen the character since, you have to imagine that Thanos’ attack on Xandar before the events of Avengers: Infinity War would’ve left him in a pretty dismal state, assuming he’s even alive at all. Nonetheless, with Captain Marvel taking things back to the ‘90s, this could be an opportunity to observe Rhomann decades before the recent drama of the Marvel universe.

Though Rhomann Dey isn’t one of the bigger names in the MCU, the character holds some significance in the comics as the Nova Corps leader who transferred his powers to Richard Rider, who then became the new Nova. This development occurred after Xandar was devastated by an attack from a warlord, leaving Rhomann mortally wounded.

Given the story’s parallels with recent MCU events, it doesn’t feel like too much of a stretch to suggest that Marvel Studios just might have a similar idea in mind for the aftermath of Thanos’ attack, especially when Vice director Adam McKay mentioned last year that the studio is currently “kicking around” an idea for a Nova movie. Granted, this is still just speculation, but we’ll find out if Captain Marvel is bringing Rhomann back into the action when the film hits theaters on March 8th, 2019.
