[Update] In addition to the images, a brand new trailer and featurette have dropped. Check them out after the gallery!

Before seeing the first trailer for Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer a few weeks ago, I scarcely knew a thing about the project, but that quickly changed. Now, you can color me excited to see how it all turns out.

In case you’re not familiar with the film, it takes place in a post-apocalyptic future where an ice age has occurred, killing off almost all the life Earth. The only survivors live aboard a train that travels the globe. Eventually a class system forms and revolution begins to grow.

In further anticipation of the film, we have a new batch of stills today that show off the bleak and beautiful look of the movie (and a nearly unrecognizable Tilda Swinton). The story requires a post-apocalyptic look, and from the trailer and images, it certainly looks like they’ve nailed the aesthetic with a great production design.

As if we needed more of a reason to be exited for the upcoming project, the cast contains some stellar names, including Tilda Swinton, Chris Evans, Jamie Bell, John Hurt, Alison Pill, Octavia Spencer, Ed Harris, and Song Kang-ho (The Host).

Bong Joon-ho may not be the most recognizable name, but he has delivered a few well-received films, including the fun monster film The Host (not to be confused with the recent Stephenie Meyer-based disaster of the same name) and the murder mystery Mother.

While we do know that Snowpiercer will be opening in South Korea on August 1st, and a few countries at least thereafter, unfortunately there is no word on a release date in the United States as of yet. However, you can bet that it will be sometime this year given that the film was picked up by The Weinstein Company just last fall.

In the meantime, check out the amazing images in the gallery below and let us know what you think in the comments!
