Competing Ted Bundy Movies Coming Under Fire Online

Netflix have a lot to answer for, in terms of reigniting public interest in some of history's most notorious serial killers. The true crime docuseries has become a staple part of the streaming diet, and almost every new project focusing on a murderer, murder inquiry, unsolved disappearance or criminal activity typically ends up with a spot at the higher end of the viewership charts.

There’s been a huge influx in projects focusing on Ted Bundy over the last couple of years, which again can largely be attributed to Netflix. Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes hit the streamer in January of 2019, just a week before Zac Efron’s biopic Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

Last year, Amazon threw their hat into the ring with Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer, and we’ve now got a pair of competing Bundy films coming to theaters and VOD next month. Elijah Wood and Luke Kirby star in No Man of God, which sees the former’s FBI agent Bill Hagmaier strike up a rapport with the latter’s death row inmate, while the first teaser recently dropped for American Boogeyman: Ted Bundy, which sees former teen heartthrob Chad Michael Murray inhabit the title role.

Naturally, the internet has plenty to say about two competing projects glorifying a man who did reprehensible things, and you can check out some of the reactions below.

While it’s been 32 years since Ted Bundy was executed at Florida State Prison in Railford, some folks are still harsh in their criticism about various studios and production companies continuing to spin real life tragedy into consumable content, whether it be fictional or documentarian in style.
