Evangeline Lilly Offers Ant-Man And The Wasp Update And Confirms Avengers 4 Appearance

Evangeline Lilly first appeared as Hope Van Dyne in 2015's Ant-Man, and while fans were disappointed not to see her suit up as The Wasp, the movie's mid-credits scene perfectly teased her ultimately suiting up as the hero somewhere down the line. Of course, since then, we've learned that she'll take on a leading role in 2018's Ant-Man and The Wasp.

While Marvel did at one point consider adding The Wasp to Captain America: Civil War, Lilly revealed at the New York Comic-Con this weekend that the big reveal of Hope taking over that mantle and donning the costume is actually being held back for Ant-Man and The Wasp. As a result, that means we won’t see her make an appearance in Avengers: Infinity War.

“I’m excited because its essentially going to be the origin of the Wasp. Of course, we’re going to see the Wasp for the first time take on the mantle, and put on the suit, and fly about, and do her thing. Following that one, there’s an Avengers series coming out, I believe its a two-parter, and the Wasp won’t be in the first part, she’ll be in the second part because they want to preserve that reveal for Ant-Man and the Wasp.”

So, with The Wasp (and presumably Ant-Man) both now confirmed for the currently untitled fourth Avengers movie, at least we have a better idea about how their stories will play out from here.

As great as it would have been to see the hero take on a central role in Avengers: Infinity War, this is actually a smart move on Marvel’s part. While that movie will introduce us to Captain Marvel before her solo outing, The Wasp doesn’t need that sort of exposure after being spotlighted in Ant-Man, and it’s much better to fully explore Hope’s journey in Ant-Man and The Wasp than it would be to cram her into that movie for the sake of it.

Still, it’s fair to say that The Wasp joining the ranks of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes can’t get here soon enough…
