‘Everybody enjoyed it’: The star of a franchise-killing bomb that lost $120 million couldn’t possibly be more wrong

The facts tell a very different story.

If a movie bombs so hard that it loses $120 million at the box office to potentially draw a line under a once-mighty franchise that’s been defined more by failure than success for decades, which then ends up being blasted by the very people who starred in it, has the project in question been unfairly treated? The answer is a hard no, but Terminator: Dark Fate star Gabriel Luna disagrees.

The Last of Us and FUBAR veteran played the primary antagonist in the legacy sequel, which came burdened by high expectations after veteran headliner Arnold Schwarzenegger was joined by co-star Linda Hamilton and writer/producer James Cameron, marking the long-awaited Terminator 2: Judgement Day reunion fans had been waiting for.

In the end, though, the R-rated sci-fi blockbuster tanked thunderously in theaters, and has since been disavowed by pretty much everyone. Director Tim Miller confirmed his belief that it was a failure, star Mackenzie Davis came clean and admitted people simply aren’t interested in the property anymore, while both Cameron and Schwarzenegger have been less than complimentary.

And yet, in an interview with CBR, Luna doubled down on Dark Fate being a widely-adored sequel everybody loves.

Terminator was a wonderful film. Everybody enjoyed it. As more and more people see it, everyone witnesses the quality and loves the story.”

We’re going to have to call bullsh*t on this one seeing as that most definitely isn’t the opinion most people hold on Dark Fate, but at least Luna remains proud of his contributions to Terminator, no matter where the truth actually lies.
