Filming for Captain America: The Winter Soldier has been on the go for quite some time. So it’s a surprise that it’s taken this long for set photos of the film’s antagonist to surface. There’s nary a day goes by when sneaky shots from the set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 aren’t posted online. Rest assured, now you can feast your eyes on this latest bunch of Cap’n pics courtesy of Comic Book Movie.

SPOILER ALERT!

Taken while in the middle of shooting, these photos give us a look at the film’s chief villain. Back from the dead, The Winter Soldier is a returning character from Captain America: The First Avenger. Real name Bucky Barnes, we last saw him being thrown into a rather large canyon after engaging in battle atop a HYDRA train. According to Marvel lore his plummet did not result in his demise as he was snagged by the Soviets, cryogenically frozen and brainwashed. What’s he up to now then? They’ve got him working as an assassin.

Actor Sebastian Stan is seen donning The Winter Soldier’s bionic arm and generally looking like a badass. A bit Eric Draven, a bit Terminator, the dynamic between him and best buddy Steve Rogers (that’s Mr. Captain America to you) will no doubt be exploited to the hilt in the sequel. You can check out all of the photos below.

Who’s going to be on hand to help out the Cap then? Other news has landed fleshing out Robert Redford’s team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. Redford, in an unusual casting choice, will play Alexander Pierce. Head of S.H.I.E.L.D. and colleague of Nick Fury, his council comrades who made the briefest of appearances in The Avengers are to play a bigger part in the Cap’s latest adventures. On board as councillors are Jenny Agutter, who appeared in The Avengers, Bernard White, The Dark Knight‘s Chin Han and Alan Dale. Dale’s in everything. He’s brilliant.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier arrives in cinemas April 4th, 2014.

Do these photos live up to your expectations of The Winter Soldier? And what about the council members? Excited about Alan Dale no doubt being awesome? Sound off below.
