First trailer for Universal's horror sequel Ouija: Origin of Evil has loomed online ahead of its planned release in October.

Bringing together the Oculus crack team of director Mike Flanagan and Annalise Basso, Universal is aligning Oculus: Origin of Evil to be its tentpole scarefest going into the 2016 Halloween corridor, and today the studio has conjured up our first look at the supernatural sequel in action.

In collaboration with Blumhouse Productions, the follow-up will be hoping to strike box office gold in the vein of its forebear, which proved to be one of the sleeper hits of 2014 after pulling in an overly impressive $102 million off the back of a meagre $2 million budget.

Fast forward two years and now, Origin of Evil will thrust moviegoers back to the Los Angeles of the 1960s, where unspeakable evil stalks a widowed mother and her two daughters. Toying with supernatural forces beyond their controls, things go from bad to horrible in today’s reveal trailer, which also spotlights the sequel’s principal cast: Elizabeth Reaser, Annalise Basso, Henry Thomas, Lulu Wilson, Lin Shaye, and Hellboy star Doug Jones.

Ouija: Origin of Evil will loom over theaters on October 21 – just in time for All Hallow’s Eve.
