Disney dropped a surprise new trailer for Frozen 2 this morning that teases what’s to come when Elsa, Anna and Olaf return this fall.

As with the teaser released back in February, the clip begins with Elsa practicing mastering her powers by attempting to freeze the sea. However, it seems she still hasn’t got full control of her icy abilities. Perhaps the key lies in discovering where they came from. The trailer hints that the sequel will explore the origins of Elsa’s powers, as the trolls send the gang on a new quest, teasing “the past is not what it seems.”

It looks like Frozen 2 will move outside of Arendelle then, as the ice queen and her sister travel to the North, “through the enchanted land” in order to find out the truth. It also promises a role reversal, as the trolls warn Anna to look after Elsa and protect her, much as Elsa tried to protect her sister in the first film.

The trailer introduces a water horse that Elsa encounters as well. Leaked images from the film’s tie-in art book (via Polygon) reveal that this creature is called the Nokk, a water spirit that takes the shape of a horse. It’s said to be impossible to win its respect, but something tells us Elsa will do just that in the movie.

Previous supposed plot leaks suggested that Elsa and Anna’s new adventure would see them discovering what happened to their parents, who were explained as being lost at sea years before the events of Frozen. There’s certainly room to explore their fate in the follow-up, then, and with any luck, we might even get that Tarzan fan theory confirmed.

For more, here’s the official synopsis:

“Why was Elsa born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she’ll set out on a dangerous but remarkable journey. In Frozen, Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In Frozen 2, she must hope they are enough.”

Frozen 2 glides into theaters on November 22nd. Until then, check out the new trailer above and be sure to let us know what you think of it by heading on down to the comments section.
