In keeping with tradition, Marvel’s first teaser trailer for Avengers: Infinity War ended on a crowd-pleasing note: the God of Thunder coming into contact with the frickin’ Guardians of the Galaxy aboard the Milano.

Still licking his wounds from the calamitous events of Thor: Ragnarok, Chris Hemsworth’s Norse god has seen better days, so what better way to lift the spirits than to put him in the company of James Gunn’s spacefaring A-holes? On a more serious note, it’s a neat way to bring Marvel’s Cosmic Universe closer together, which has been firing on all cylinders thanks to the back-to-back success of Guardians 2 and the recently-released Ragnarok.

And if you cast your mind back to James Gunn’s rip-roaring sequel, you’ll no doubt recall the moment when Groot began his regenerative process. Little Baby Groot is no more, it seems, as Vin Diesel’s walking, talking tree has now evolved into Adolescence Groot – replete with teenage tantrums and snark. Exactly how that filters into the story of Avengers: Infinity War is yet to be revealed, but down below, you’ll be able to take a closer look at the grown-up Groot (along with some other awesome screenshots from the trailer).

Don’t they grow up so fast? Granted, it’s hard to gauge Groot’s actual height from this photo alone, but we’d wager that he’s now of similar stature to Gamora (Zoe Saldana) or Mantis (Pom Klementieff), which will only spell all kinds of mayhem for the Guardians going forward.

But before Vol. 3 is written, scored, and released, there’s an Infinity War on the horizon, and it’ll seemingly set the stage for Marvel’s “ultimate, deadliest showdown.” Or at least, that’s what the below plot synopsis teases.

An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

That “blitz of destruction” begins on May 4th, 2018, when Avengers: Infinity War will shake the MCU down to its very foundations.
