Between Fox’s ongoing marketing spiel for Alien: Covenant and Blade Runner 2049, the 2017 sequel headed up by Denis Villeneuve, the Internet has been awash with old-school science fiction all throughout the week – such is the enduring legacy of one Ridley Scott.

But if the big trailer reveal for Blade Runner 2049 was ground zero, then the past few days have slowly peeled back the layers of Villeneuve’s starry sci-fi flick, revealing exciting morsels of info regarding the director’s use of CGI – or lack thereof – not to mention the decision to, ahem, replicate the R rating held by its predecessor. Exciting though that may be, Entertainment Weekly has gone one step further today to unveil a gallery of striking new images, in which we see Harrison Ford (Deckard), Ryan Gosling (K) and Ana de Armas (Joi) hitting up the neon streets of future Los Angeles.

Indeed, if that aforementioned teaser resembled Ridley Scott’s seminal original, then these new stills stand as a welcome reminder that Villeneuve, who partnered with his go-to DP Roger Deakins (Prisoners, Sicario) for the sequel, has captured the aesthetic remarkably well. Moreover, the director doesn’t necessarily consider Blade Runner 2049 the end of the road, teasing, “I’m doomed, I love sci-fi. I have two more ideas now that I would love to do. [And] Blade Runner could go on… we’ll see how this one goes.”

Looks like Blade Runner 2049, the long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott’s time-honored classic, may well get a sequel of its own. It’ll dock in theaters on October 6th, 2017, and in case you missed it, we’ve embedded 2049‘s brooding first teaser above for your viewing pleasure.
