Has The Mystery Of Benicio Del Toro’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi Character Been Solved?

Ready for another helping of speculative reports regarding Star Wars: The Last Jedi?

Making Star Wars has unearthed another string of rumors pertaining to Rian Johnson’s sci-fi sequel and, specifically, Benicio del Toro’s involvement in it. Up until now, the true identity of del Toro’s character has been cloaked in a thick veil of secrecy – such is the Star Wars way – leading to nine kinds of fan theories about how he factors into the actual story. For instance, does he hail from the dark side of the Force, or the light? If today’s report is anything to go by, it’s actually neither.

Playing a figure known as D.J. – whether this is merely a codename used on set or a genuine nickname is up for question – Making Star Wars alleges del Toro’s mystery character is a bit of a drifter, one who operates in the criminal underworld of Disney’s prized universe. Cloaked in a jet-black trench coat with cropped black hair, there’s also mention of a Han Solo-esque belt along with a surprisingly fancy ship. Further details of that space vessel can be found through the link below, though considering that Benicio del Toro’s figure purportedly has a chequered past, we’d wager that he either stole the ship or managed to piece it together in his journey across the galaxy.

Nevertheless, if this tidbit holds true, then Disney’s rebooted Star Wars universe could be about to welcome a Man in Black-like figure into its ranks, one which would certainly draw the very best out of Benicio del Toro. All of this is yet to be confirmed, of course, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on The Last Jedi front nevertheless.

In its journey to that all-important December 15th release date, Star Wars: The Last Jedi will make a pit stop at this month’s Star Wars Celebration Orlando to premiere its very first trailer. There’s also mention of “executioner” type Stormtroopers, while we know that Justin Theroux recently joined the film’s extensive list of cameos.

Suffice it to say, there’s much to look forward to in the near future from that galaxy far, far away and as always, you can be sure we’ll let you know when more updates arise.
