Despite some DC fans being upset that The Flash won’t feature Superman, former DC star Henry Cavill gave his “stamp of approval” for Sasha Calle‘s Kara Zor-El, a.k.a Supergirl in the upcoming DC blockbuster.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Calle spoke about her experience meeting with Cavill right after The Flash finished production. Calle described Cavill as someone who’s “very proper,” and had a great experience meeting the DC veteran. She then asked the former Man of Steel star if she “made him proud” with her performance. Cavill gave a positive response that meant a lot to the DC actress.

“Yes, I met him. I met him actually after the movie was done, months later. I gave him a big hug. You know, it’s Henry Cavill, man! Our Man of Steel. He is kind and very proper, and it was a great experience.

“I asked him, ‘Did I make you proud, cuz? Does Superman approve?’.And he was like, ‘Absolutely. You did a phenomenal job.’ I think, to me, that meant the world, because it’s Henry Cavill, Man of Steel.”

Based on the trailer for The Flash, Barry Allen will be revisiting the events of 2013’s Man of Steel, but with multiple changes resulting from his time-traveling antics. Rather than meeting Superman, he meets Supergirl as she aids him and Michael Keaton‘s Batman in stopping Zod from terraforming the Earth into a new Krypton.

Asides from his appearance in Black Adam, Cavill’s Superman was supposed to appear in The Flash but his cameo appearance was cut from the film. However, The Flash director, Andy Muschietti confirmed that Clark Kent will appear in the upcoming blockbuster, but will be played by a different actor.

It was announced back in Dec. 2022 that Cavill will no longer play Superman in James Gunn’s DC reboot, along with many cast members from the main DC lineup. Gunn claimed his vision for Superman in the upcoming reboot was someone who younger and exudes Superman’s kindness and compassion. At the moment, there is speculation that a screen test for Superman: Legacy will begin as early as next week. So far, no one has been confirmed to be next in line to don the red cape and follow in Cavill’s footsteps.

At least we know that Cavill approved Calle’s performance of his Kryptonian doppelganger, and you can see it in action when The Flash hits theaters on June 16, 2023.
