The Incredibles 2 References Frank Miller With This Cool New Poster

The Incredibles 2 will see the return of supersuit designer Edna Mode, who features on this cool new Frank Miller-style poster.

It’s been 14 years since Pixar’s The Incredibles burst onto screens, single-handedly building its own superhero universe in a single movie (take that Marvel and DC!). And while it’s certainly been a long wait for a sequel, on June 15th, The Incredibles 2 will finally hit cinemas.

That’s not too far off now and to hype us up, Pixar has just released a very cool teaser poster featuring the original film’s most iconic supporting character, supersuit designer Edna Mode. Fans who know their comic books will instantly recognize that it’s designed in the style of The Dark Knight Returns and Sin City creator Frank Miller, whose use of stark black and white punctuated by splashes of primary color is difficult to mistake for anyone else.

Does this perhaps mean we’re in for a dark, gritty and bloody pulp tale of the family struggling against corruption and killer prostitutes in the upcoming film? Probably not, but it’s fun to imagine.

Given that the first outing showed the titular heroes receiving new supersuits tailored to their skills after coming out of retirement, it’s a safe bet that they’re going to get some new gear in the sequel. And obviously, the person supplying that gear will be the insanely competent seamstress, Edna Mode. Incidentally, one weird bit of trivia is that Mode is actually voiced by director Brad Bird, who claims that the character was designed to be the franchise’s equivalent of James Bond’s Q.

Personally, I hope she gets a substantial part in The Incredibles 2. After all, she’s one of my favorite characters in the original movie and whenever I see a superhero wearing a cape I can’t help but remember her “NO CAPES!” monologue.
