‘It might be 2 films, maybe 3’: Mel Gibson’s ‘The Passion of the Christ’ sequel going full-blown ‘Fast & Furious’

Let he who is without family cast the first stone.

Vin Diesel raised many an eyebrow when he revealed that Fast X could end up spanning not just two movies but an entirely trilogy, which seems unnecessary to say the least. However, Mel Gibson appears to be subverting the trope after Jim Caviezel revealed The Passion of the Christ sequel may be asking the question: “What would Dominic Toretto do?”

The actor – who can currently be seen headlining the box office sensation Sound of Freedom, which is being propelled into the stratosphere in theaters by way of suspicious critical acclaim – recently sat down for an interview with Mihel Orehovec, where the Person of Interest star hinted that back-to-back-to-back Biblical epics might be on the cards.

“I asked him would you be ready to go in January, he said “yeah, maybe.” I said “how about the end of fall,” he said “yeah, maybe.” So who knows. It might be two films, maybe three, but I think it’s two.”

Let’s not forget that The Passion of the Christ still ranks as one of the highest-grossing R-rated movies ever made after bringing in an eye-watering $612 million from theaters, and it would be fair to say that Jesus Christ is a character who won’t be slipping out of the cultural eye anytime soon.

It’s debatable as to whether or not Lethal Weapon 5 or Passion 2/3/4 should be next on the agenda for Gibson as a director, but regardless of what you think of the man on a personal level, it can’t be denied that he’s a hell of a filmmaker. Oops, blasphemy.
