James Gunn Updates Us On Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3
While Marvel Studios is busy putting a bow on Phase Three, what with Ant-Man and the Wasp set for a July 6th release later this year, Avengers 4 preparing for reshoots and Captain Marvel roughly halfway through production, things are starting to heat up post-Phase Three now.
The Jon Watts-helmed, currently untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel has commenced pre-production, with filming scheduled to begin early next month, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, directed by series stalwart, James Gunn, having now entered development, has been the subject of a flurry of activity lately.
Last month, Gunn confirmed on Twitter, much to the surprise of no one, that the title of the third Guardians of the Galaxy installment would indeed be Vol. 3, revealing two weeks prior that the flick will hit screens in May of 2020. Then, today, during one of his regular Q&A sessions on Facebook, he provided a further update on the pic, namely that he’s “more than a year into the process, so the script is far along.”
“For many many months, I first write the treatment which is 80 pages or so with photographs. That turns into GotG – I’m now rewriting and making sure my rough draft works,” he shared.
Gunn also put to bed any apprehension protruding from those fearful that the proposed acquisition of 21st Century Fox by The Walt Disney Company would impact his threequel, saying “not gonna happen in any major way. Too far along.”
In addition to addressing the Disney-Fox merger and the progression of his screenplay, Gunn revealed that he’s narrowed down both the character list and soundtrack of Vol. 3 and that the fandom shouldn’t expect the Venom symbiote to make an appearance, due to the rights belonging to Sony.
If you’ve seen Avengers: Infinity War, you’ll know that Thanos and his Snap of Doom wiped out the entire gang – save for Rocket – so the only question that remains now is how Gunn will handle making Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 when Star-Lord and co. are, at present, no longer amongst the living.
