Warner Bros. might be amping up the marketing mojo for next year’s tentpole Batman V Superman, but that’s not stopping the cast of its follow-up, Suicide Squad, from getting in on the action.

Before a single shot of David Ayer’s forthcoming villain team-up movie was lensed, one of its leading stars had already begun teasing fans with suggestive glimpses at his transformation. Cast as one of Batman’s most swarthy opponents, Jared Leto’s take on The Joker has been the subject of many Tweets and Instagram posts. And now, Leto has taken to Snapchat to unveil the best look yet at the film’s central antagonist.

Check it out below:

His rouged-up lips provide quite the alluring contrast to his shock of green hair. While it’s thought that Leto will further augment his features to align himself with the Joker, he’s yet to go one step further and bleach his skin. In all likelihood, that specific element will probably be rendered via makeup. For now, though, this sneaky snap is an exciting precursor to an official “first look” image that will hopefully arrive in the coming weeks.

In the recent past, Leto posted a series of photos of himself with a crop of bleached blonde hair. That first step to becoming Gotham’s eerie baddie has now steered him toward this latest stage, which is thought to be based upon The Dark Knight Returns version of the character. Whichever comic storyline Ayer chooses to mine his Joker from, if Leto’s unbridled commitment continues, could we be in for a better onscreen iteration than Heath Ledger’s?

Fleshing out the rest of the DC supervillain flick are Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jim Parrack as Rick Flag and Viola Davis as Squad leader Amanda Waller. Their final transformations will be revealed when Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5, 2016.
