after everything

Just when you thought it was safe, one of the worst franchises in history is returning with a 5th installment

The old adage offers that there’s a butt for every seat, which answers a lot of questions while continuing to pose many more. For instance; who is so invested in the After franchise that we needed five of them?

Certainly not critics anyway, seeing as the previous two chapters After We Fell and After Ever Happy both scored a big fat zero percent on Rotten Tomatoes. In fact, the first installment and sequel After We Collided netted 18 and 13 percent approval ratings on the aggregation site, so the median average across the entire saga so far is a whopping six percent.

And yet, there’s another one on the way later this year, which has just dropped its first trailer. Needless to say, it isn’t going to win over any new converts, but those who have inexplicably been following the saga of Josephine Langford’s Tessa and Hero Fiennes Tiffin’s Hardin from the very beginning are sure to find something to enjoy.

We’re not her to judge anyone for looking forward to After Everything, although we do wonder how on earth these movies keep making enough money to continue when the overwhelming consensus – which is largely accurate – is that each and every one of them is irredeemably awful.

It’s a curious conundrum that may never be answered with any certainty, but here we are with another one on the way, proving that the IP machine remains as bulletproof as it ever did, even in the face of diminishing returns that have been scraping the bottom of the barrel for a while.
