Normally, we expect for movies making up the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to be announced to the public far in advance, but the studio has thus far remained tight-lipped regarding which films will be assigned to various theatrical dates that have been reserved beyond 2019. This is obviously in an effort not to spoil Avengers 4‘s outcome, but smart money says their hottest characters will continue receiving sequels in the coming years.
While recently speaking with Birth.Movies.Death., Marvel Studios’ head honcho Kevin Feige reminded us all that he and his colleagues do indeed have the future well mapped out, but didn’t divulge too much outside of what’s already been revealed to the masses.
“Obviously people are aware of Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Guardians 3, which James [Gunn] gets into prep on very soon. Outside of that, we like the idea of having the world do what we’re doing, which is focusing on the immediate future. Once that happens, we will – I don’t know that we’ll do exactly the same kind of thing, that many years out – but there are secret vaulted doors in Marvel Studios that lead to essentially what we’ll be doing between now and 2024.”
Though Natasha Romanoff being granted a solo movie to call her own has been long overdue, it’s looking like such a thing is actually starting to take shape. As such, Feige was willing to comment on this one, saying that work’s begun in some fashion.
“We’ve started to, yes, within the last six months or so we’ve started to engage on certain developmental levels on a lot of those things going forward. Which of those will be made, when they’ll be made – the ones that bubble up to the top are the ones people have heard of. But that’s all I’ll say about that.”
Aside from what’s already been listed here today, it’s probably safe to assume that Black Panther and Doctor Strange will be among those getting followups within the next three or four years, but we can’t be too sure until the official word comes down.
In case you needed a reminder, the MCU‘s 2019 slate starts things off on March 8th with Captain Marvel, with Avengers 4 following on May 3rd, and Spider-Man: Far From Home bringing up the rear on July 5th.
