The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of horror’s modern-day cornerstones, and it’s fair to say that, even after all these years, Tobe Hooper’s cult classic stands the test of time. Fast forward to the present day and, in light of Hooper’s recent death, there’s an air of bittersweet sorrow looming over Leatherface, Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo’s horror prequel due to rev up the family chainsaw next month.

Of course, we say bittersweet because although it’s sad to lose such a remarkable talent, in many ways Leatherface will hope to honor Hooper’s spine-chilling legacy. And the film’s new and indeed final poster has arrived just in time for release. Embedded below, it’s a decidedly chilling tease of what’s to come, and we can only assume that the half-naked figure is the titular maniac in question. Eek!

Starring Lili Taylor as Verne Sawyer, Sam Coleman as Bud, Sam Strike as Jackson, James Bloor as Ike and Jessica Madsen as Clarice, the official plot synopsis for Leatherface reads as so:

In Texas, years before the events of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, in the early days of the infamous Sawyer family, the youngest child is sentenced to a mental hospital after a suspicious incident leaves the sheriffs’ daughter dead. Ten years later, he kidnaps a young nurse and escapes with 3 other inmates. Pursued by authorities including the deranged sheriff out to avenge his daughter’s death, the young Sawyer teen goes on a violent road trip from hell, molding him into the monster known now as Leatherface.

Leatherface claws its way onto DirecTV next week, September 21st. It’ll remain exclusive to the platform for one month, before Lionsgate launches Julian Maury and Alexandre Bustillo’s nightmarish prequel into select theaters on October 20th. By that stage, the big screen will be teeming with spooky delights ranging from Saw sequel Jigsaw to The Snowman.
