Mama Shaw Confronts Dom In Brief New Promo For The Fate Of The Furious

Dame Helen Mirren dishes out a slap or two in the latest promo for The Fate of the Furious. Look for Universal's actioner to open on April 14th.

So much of Universal’s marketing blitz for The Fate of the Furious has been concerned with Dominic Toretto going rogue that no one has stopped to ask the question: how does Helen Mirren factor into F. Gary Gray’s blockbuster sequel? Well, wonder no more.

Proving those early rumors to be true, we know that the esteemed actress will play the part of Magdalene Shaw opposite Vin Diesel and the rest of the Toretto gang. As mother hen to both Owen (Luke Evans) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), Helen Mirren looks set to enjoy a crucial role in determining The Fate of the Furious, and up above you’ll be able to take a peek at her character dishing out a slap or two. Given the circumstances of their meeting – Dom walking out on family, Magdalene reuniting with her son(s) – we’re intrigued to find out whether Helen Mirren and Vin Diesel’s characters strike up some form of uneasy alliance to combat Charlize Theron’s nefarious Cipher. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, as the old saying goes.

And for those crossing their fingers in the hope that Luke Evans’ Owen Shaw will return to the franchise, the advent of Magdalene Shaw is surely a hopeful sign. Universal’s Fast and Furious saga has bent the rules before, after all, and may do so again to allow Han Seoul-Oh (Sung Kang) to make a comeback in some shape or form. A Han prequel movie, anyone?

On April 14th, Universal will finally unveil The Fate of the Furious. Don’t be expecting anything too morbid, though, what with plans already in place for Fast and Furious 9 and 10. April 19th, 2019 and April 2nd, 2021 have both been earmarked for those two installments, while there’s also chatter of character-driven spinoffs revving into gear over at Universal.
