Though it’s yet to be officially confirmed, all the signs are pointing to the Young Avengers forming in the MCU in the near future (which WGTC first told you was happening last year). Many projects coming over the next few years will start scattering members of the teen super-team into the franchise, so it stands to reason that they’ll unite in their own vehicle at some point. And now, another adolescent hero is reportedly being cast.
According to insider Daniel Richtman on Patreon, Marvel is looking to cast Hulking for an upcoming project, though he doesn’t say which one. That hasn’t stopped fans from speculating, though, with tons of options now being put forth on Twitter.
For those unfamiliar with the comics, the character’s name is pretty misleading, as he hasn’t got anything to do with Hulk, per se. Hulkling (Earth name: Teddy Altman, birth name: Dorrek VIII) is actually an alien of half-Kree/half-Skrull origin. His romantic relationship with Scarlet Witch’s son and fellow Young Avenger Wiccan is a fan favorite, too.
Speaking of Wiccan, reports say that he and his brother Speed will be introduced in WandaVision. With teen Cassie Lang appearing in Avengers: Endgame, Kamala Khan debuting in Ms. Marvel and Kate Bishop appearing in Hawkeye, you can already see how the roster is coming together. Even Kid Loki could show up in Loki and Patriot is rumored, too. All we’re missing are the likes of Iron Lad and Miss America.
As for what this mystery project Hulkling is being cast for could be, well, MCU Cosmic’s Jeremy Conrad speculates that he might be a late-in-the-day addition to WandaVision. His reasoning is that Monica Rambeau will feature in the show as an agent of S.W.O.R.D. and she’s been dealing with Skrulls since she was a kid. So, it’s possible that she knows Teddy and that’s how he’ll be worked into the plot. It’s an interesting idea, but remember, WGTC already told you last month that Hulkling was headed to the MCU and might have a role to play in Captain Marvel 2.
Wherever he shows up, though, it’s definitely exciting to learn that the Young Avengers are on their way to the franchise and as soon as we learn more about what the studio has planned for them, we’ll be sure to let you know.
