Men In Black 3 Budget Up To $215 Million, Blame Will Smith

The troubled production of Men in Black 3 has been well documented over the past few months and if you’ve been keeping up to date with your film news, you surely know that the movie is in trouble. The problems started a while ago and in case you’re not up to date, let me recap. To take advantage of tax rebates, production started in New York last year. There was a problem though, the script finished.

The filmmakers planned to shoot the present day scenes and then take a break to go back and work on the script. Once it was finished, they would complete the shooting. Things didn’t go as planned though and working out the rest of the script proved to be a tough challenge.

The studio went through four screenwriters to help out and in the process, the start date for the second half of the shoot kept getting pushed back. Of course, costs kept rising and now The Wrap reports that the budget is up to $215 million. Not helping things is star Will Smith, whose ego is apparently providing for some problems. I’m sure it also doesn’t help that the star is posting up in a $9,000-a-month, 53-foot trailer while on set. Plus, at one point he ordered that an entire set be rebuilt. Let’s just say that he’s not the easiest person to work with.

With a budget over $200 million, the film is already pushing it. Then you have to factor in what will undoubtedly be an agressive marketing campaign. This is going to be one hell of an expensive film and may turn into Wild Wild West all over again. To be honest, the way things are going now, I wouldn’t be surprised if this one flops.

What do you think? Is Men in Black 3 doomed?
