Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman is one of many, many, titles slated to play at this year’s imminent New York Film Festival. In the wake of its unanimous praise at Telluride and Venice, we can look forward to seeing it on cinema screens this October. But before then, we’ve got this awesome new poster to feast our eyes on.
The quirky comeback comedy tells the story of Michael Keaton’s has-been thespian Michael Riggan. A once great superhero, his eagerness to put his kitschy career behind kickstarts a new era for him. Due to his desire to acquire a new critical appreciation for his masterful acting, he puts a plan into action: he’s going to stage his own play. It sounds pretty straightforward, but if you’ve had chance to look at the trailer or any of the preview material it’s anything but.
An absurd take on celebrity and New York performance culture, there’s an air of quirk mixed in with its beautiful visuals – which is a seeming departure of style for Inarritu. The latest poster to land is a magnificent spot of artwork, that lists the movie’s starry cast atop a charcoal image of Keaton.
Birdman hits theatres across the US October 17th.
