Great Hera! According to THR, Michelle MacLaren has officially signed on to direct Warner Brothers’ upcoming Wonder Woman film starring Gal Gadot. The director of some of the best episodes of Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead appeared on a shortlist for the coveted role last month, and went so far as to enter talks just two weeks ago. Now, she’ll be bringing DC’s flagship superheroine to the big screen.

MacLaren got the job over two other directors who met with the studio: The Babadook‘s Jennifer Kent, and Homeland‘s Lesli Linka Gatter. She won’t just direct the film, either, as she’s also been given the chance to assist the writers (who have yet to be announced) and develop the story as well. We still don’t know what that plot will entail, or how the film will fit into the larger DC Cinematic Universe, but having MacLaren in charge of those things is great news and shows that Warner Bros. is taking this project seriously.

Produced by Charles Roven, Zack Snyder, and Deborah Snyder, Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot (who makes her big screen debut as the Amazonian princess in 2016’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice) and hits theaters on June 23rd, 2017.
