Nato And Remy’s Last Stand: Horror’s Most Memorable Babies! D’awwww…

In keeping with the whole "evil horror babies" theme, Remy and I decided to look back on the horror genre and discuss our favorite, well, "evil horror babies." Some are zombies, some are demons - hell, some are even human! That's the power of the horror genre, taking those things that should represent happiness, and turning those smile-producing normalities into all that is unholy. Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way suggesting we should all act like Kyle Broflovski and "kick the baby," but if you were ever to kick any baby, it'd probably be one of these little buggers.

Nato – Hellboy Infant (Hellboy)

Hellboy

While some of you may argue that Hellboy isn’t a horror movie, we do have to remember one thing about the BPRD agent we’ve come to know and love – he’s a demon summoned from hell by Nazi occultists, and he’s summoned as an infant no less. Thankfully, he develops a hatred of Nazis because of this, and he’s discovered by Allied forces (the good guys!), so Red turns out to be a pretty OK demon thanks to the parenting ways of Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, who raises him as a normal boy. Kudos to Bruttenholm, because Red eventually turns into the character so famously portrayed by Ron Perlman – but it’s his younger years that are so fascinating.

We all remember the scared little demon running about and causing a ruckus, complete with his pint-sized rock hand, but there’s such a wonderful childlike whimsy about Hellboy. He’s just so funny and loveable – I mean, just look at that pot belly and those mischievous horns. Don’t you just want one yourself, before he turns into a gigantic paranormal killing machine? Hellboy running about in his infant form may only happen for a short introductory scene, but our brief encounter with the curious little soldier still remains one of my favorite parts of Del Toro’s franchise.

Oh man, just give him a tiny version of Red’s signature blaster and I’d be in heaven.
