Nick Fury Will Reportedly Return In Captain Marvel 2

For a while there, Nick Fury seemed to have quietly disappeared from the MCU, with no appearances from 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron until 2018's Avengers: Infinity War. However, the one-eyed super-spy is definitely back to being a regular player now after turning up in all three MCU movies released in 2019. Thankfully, his prominent role in the franchise looks set to remain as well, as we're hearing that Fury will show up in Captain Marvel 2, among other films.

We Got This Covered has been informed by a source that Samuel L. Jackson is fully expected to reprise his fan favorite character for the sequel to Captain Marvel. We don’t yet know exactly what role he’ll play in the plot of the movie, but we do know that he’ll be in it.

This makes a lot of sense in many ways, both on-screen and off. After all, Fury and Carol Danvers became close allies in CM, with Brie Larson and Jackson’s chemistry being a highlight of the pic, so it’s only smart to replicate that in the follow-up. Likewise, the two stars are good pals, with Jackson also starring in Larson’s directorial debut, Unicorn Store. So of course they’d want to work with each other again.

As for what role Fury could fill in the story, Spider-Man: Far From Home might’ve given us a hint. The post-credits scene of the latest Spidey flick revealed that the former S.H.I.E.L. D. founder is now heading up an organization that appears to be based in space and manned purely by Skrulls. Fans are theorizing that this could be the MCU version of S.W.O.R.D., S.H.I.E.L.D.’s cosmic counterpart from the comics.

Assuming that Fury has been secretly running this organization for a while, Captain Marvel 2 could explore how he allied with Talos and his people and first started the venture. Kevin Feige has already teased that the sequel will be set in the past, after all.

It’s possible we’ll get some official Captain Marvel 2 details from Marvel’s big Comic-Con panel next Saturday, July 20th, so be sure to stay tuned.
