As Fox Searchlight enters negotiations to acquire the pic, Variety brings word that Jason Clarke, Keira Knightley and Tarzan himself Alexander Skarsgard have become attached to post-WWII drama, The Aftermath.

Ridley Scott’s production banner Scott Free is behind the adaptation, one based on Rhidian Brook’s bestseller that first hit store shelves three years ago. Should a deal place, it’s understood Fox has zeroed in on James Kent (Testament of Youth) to take the reins, working from a script produced by Anna Waterhouse and Joe Shrapnel of Race fame.

Though it’s early days, attracting Clarke, Knightley and Skarsgard to the project is no mean feat, and the fact that The Aftermath looks set to hit the ground running is certainly an endorsement of Brook’s work. It’s set in the post-war Germany of ’46, where “a woman, Rachael, arrives with her only remaining son in the ruins of Hamburg. There she is reunited with her husband, a British colonel named Lewis, who is charged with rebuilding the shattered city. But as they set off for their new home, Rachael is stunned to discover that they will be sharing the house with its previous owners, a German widower and his troubled daughter.”

Of the aforementioned trio, we assume that Knightley will fall into the role of Rachael, with either Clarke or Skarsgard playing the part of Colonel Lewis Morgan. Details on The Aftermath are few and far between at this time, but we’ll keep you updated as this one develops.
