Take A Closer Look At Poe’s Upgraded X-Wing Ahead Of Star Wars: The Last Jedi

The best damn pilot in the galaxy just got a little faster.

Following up on today’s shimmering cover reveal, Empire – the magazine, not the intergalactic fascist government – has posted a screenshot of Poe Dameron’s souped-up X-Wing as it’ll appear in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Bearing the codename Black One (a subtle nod to Rogue One, perhaps?), the vessel has been specially modified by Resistance engineers so that Oscar Isaac’s pilot is able to call upon a temporary boost when the going gets tough.

Chances are the Black One (AKA Incom-FreiTek T-70) will fire up that thruster to evade incoming fire from a nearby Star Destroyer, such as the one depicted in Empire’s exclusive action shot. There’s also the threat of the First Order’s Supremacy, a super-sized command center that is said to be home of Supreme Leader Snoke. Truth be told, Andy Serkis’ humanoid alien didn’t have an awful lot to do in The Force Awakens two years ago, but rest assured; intel unveiled over the course of Force Friday reaffirmed that his all-powerful antagonist will be stepping out of the shadows come December.

Per Empire:

Not bad, eh? It’s impossible to wean any concrete story details from this admittedly dark and blurry image, but it would appear that Poe Dameron is either acting alone (a stealth mission, perhaps?) or leading a squadron of X-Wing pilots as Black One. Either way, we know the Resistance will be in a “very, very vulnerable” state by the time The Last Jedi begins, so any additional firepower is more than welcome.

December 15th will herald the next chapter in Lucasfilm’s storied Skywalker saga, and it’s fair to say that excitement for Star Wars: The Last Jedi is already through the roof. With little over three months to go until release, it’s surely only a matter of time before the Powers That Be roll out the sequel’s full-length trailer. As always, watch this space for more.
