Sundance Hit Sleight Conjures Up Magical First Teaser

Jacob Latimore springs a trick or three in the magical first trailer for Sleight, JD Dillard's feature that wowed Sundance earlier this year.

Say what you will about The Maze Runner franchise, but there’s no question that Lionsgate’s YA adaptation has served as an exciting springboard for some of Hollywood’s hottest rising talent. Now that he’s on the mend from a horrible set injury, Dylan O’Brien will take a brave step into full-blown action via American Assassin next year, while co-star Rosa Salazar recently bagged the title role for Alita: Battle Angel.

Next in line to leave the nest is Jacob Latimore, who will soon headline Sleight for Blumhouse Productions. After wowing those in attendance at Sundance earlier this year, the slick first teaser trailer has now found its way online. Part Chronicle, part Now You See Me, JD Dillard’s low-budget feature asks what if those hustlers and tricksters could, you know, perform real magic?

Embedded above, there are some great ideas and visuals littered throughout the teaser trailer, which has us all the more excited to see Latimore flourish in a leading role. The Maze Runner breakout plays Bo, a gifted student capable of breathtaking tricks. He begins by performing low-level stunts on the streets for money, but such pittance isn’t enough to pay the bills, leading our young protagonist into the city’s criminal underbelly.

Below is the official synopsis:

When Bo, a handsome and gifted high school student, suddenly becomes the sole caretaker for his little sister, Tina, he foregoes college to dedicate his talents to the craft of magic. He wows audiences as a street magician but still has to make ends meet, so he cleverly uses his skills to peddle drugs for the local dealer, Angelo. However when Bo falls for Holly, an adorable teenager in need of support, he decides to get out of the drug business, causing Angelo to threaten his family. Bo must now rely on his sleight of hand and brilliant mind to save the day.

Sleight, also starring Seychelle Gabriel and Dulé Hill, is due to open on these shores come April 7th, 2017.
