The discourse surrounding the DCU has been never-ending since James Gunn and Peter Safran rose to power, and we’re now living in a world where the Guardians of the Galaxy director’s alleged obliviousness to the existence of Logan Lerman has given rise to a newfound conspiracy theory.
It all began when Gunn’s longtime arch-nemesis Grace Randolph popped up yet again with some “inside information” regarding the casting process for the upcoming Superman: Legacy, going so far as to offer that an unnamed actor was in final talks for the role. Not for the first time, the co-CEO almost immediately debunked the speculation, but the Beyond the Trailer host wasn’t done yet.
From there, she outright named Lerman as the talent in question, which led to Gunn’s accidentally savage response outing himself as being wholly unaware that the high-profile industry veteran was a person that exists within the Hollywood bubble. Naturally, the bizarre exchange didn’t take long to find a life of its own on social media.
It would be one of the most darkly hilarious developments in the history of superhero cinema were Gunn genuinely planning to cast Lerman as Clark Kent in Superman: Legacy, only to yank the opportunity away at the last second for the sole purpose of sticking it to his longtime internet adversary.
Nobody would ever admit to such a thing, of course, but given Gunn’s promise that he’d never lie to fans about anything DCU-related, the fact he gave the Percy Jackson alum the full Star-Lord “WHO???” treatment hints that it’s all just hot air on Randolph’s part.
