The 10 Best Batman Moments From Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

As divisive a movie as Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is proving to be (if this weekend's box office results are any indication, moviegoers love it even if critics don't), one thing everyone seems to be able to agree on is that Ben Affleck's Batman is the best take on the iconic DC Comics character to date. While the movie splits its time fairly equally between the two heroes, it doesn't feel like an exaggeration to say that the Dark Knight gets the best scenes, and ends up stealing the show. So, with that in mind, what were the best Batman moments in Batman V Superman? Here, you'll find a look at his ten best scenes along with an analysis of what they mean within the context of the movie and what they could be leading to down the line. It's clear that Zack Snyder has big plans for this newly created universe, and it seems like it will mostly be revolving around The Caped Crusader, which is absolutely fine with us. 10) Chemistry With Alfred Previous Batman movies have had mixed success with Alfred. Perhaps the best version before Jeremy Irons in Batman V Superman was Michael Caine in The Dark Knight Trilogy, though he did little more than offer advice to Bruce Wayne and serve as, well, his butler. However, this Alfred is clearly a vital part of the Caped Crusader's war on crime as we see him providing intel to the hero while he's in the field, taking control of the Batwing, and even repairing the Batsuit and Batmobile. Throw in the fact that Irons and Ben Affleck share a ton of chemistry, and this is a winning combo which absolutely needs to be explored in that rumoured solo movie. 9) Knightmare IMAX is without a doubt the best possible format in which to see Batman V Superman, something which is evident from this incredible sequence which takes place either in a nightmare or a brief glimpse into a future which will be further explored in the Justice League movies (we'll have to wait and see on that front). While seeing Batman using a gun makes for rather uncomfortable viewing, that's pretty much the point, especially as this is clearly a world where the Man of Steel has been corrupted by Darkseid's influence. The action here is spot on and the whole thing looks great thanks to Snyder's decision to shoot it in IMAX. As an added bonus, we even get to see Darkseid's Parademons. 8) Wonder Woman Romance? While Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince never actually embark on a romantic relationship in Batman V Superman, it definitely feels like that's the direction Zack Snyder could be heading in. There's clearly an attraction there (on Bruce's side anyway), and with Superman out of the picture, it seems as if they'll be working very closely together when the time comes to assemble the Justice League. Regardless of whether or not their interactions here do lead to romance though, the scenes these two characters share both in and out of costume prove to be an unexpected highlight in the movie and seeing what's next for them - especially with Batman rumoured to show up in the present day bookends of Wonder Woman - should be great fun. 7) The Origin Story When the trailers for Batman V Superman made it clear that we'd be getting another take on the Caped Crusader's origin story, I think it's fair to say that we all rolled our eyes. After all, it's a scene which has played out on the page, on TV, and on the big screen almost countless times, so what on Earth could Zack Snyder bring to the table that would feel new? Well, to give credit where it's due, the filmmaker did a fantastic job of putting a new spin on a familiar moment by making it part of the opening credits sequence and borrowing heavily from how it played out in The Dark Knight Returns. That Frank Miller tale was used as inspiration for the movie and is actually referenced in various ways throughout, despite Batman V Superman not being a straight adaptation of it. 6) Batman Takes Out Lex's Men Glimpsed in the final trailer for the movie, Batman taking on a dozen or more of Lex Luthor's thugs played out even more awesomely on the big screen in a frantic, edge of your seat sequence which was both very violent and very much classic Batman (with any luck, that planned R-Rated Ultimate Cut will provide an even longer and more intense version of this battle). Utilizing all sorts of gadgets and the kind of brutal fight moves we've all grown to love in the Arkham video games, the cherry on the cake here came when the scene ended by again paying homage to The Dark Knight Returns. We're referring to the moment where Batman busted through the wall and shot the bad guy, albeit in his flamethrower rather than the head. 5) A Message From The Flash While this was technically more of a Flash moment than a Batman one, the Dark Knight was still there, so it counts. Equal parts massively intriguing and confusing, a future version of the Scarlet Speedster (decked out in armour of some sort) coming back to warn Batman of a threat he needs to stop was a very cool moment for fans. While it appears as if Batman may have stopped this future coming to pass by putting his differences with Superman aside, it will be interesting to see if Snyder revisits it, especially as comic book fans will recognize the scene as being a nod to the classic Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline. If that's the direction Snyder is heading in, we may get to see the small screen Flash in a movie after all. 4) Batmobile Chase Christopher Nolan's trilogy of Batman movies featured some great Batmobile sequences, but the filmmaker's desire to keep things practical restricted what he could do with them. Snyder, in comparison, goes all out, showcasing the iconic vehicle's massive range of capabilities and the massive amount of damage the hero can do with it. Utilizing the Batmobile as a weapon of sorts, the Caped Crusader uses it to take his enemies out, and while that's sure to upset fans who don't like to see Batman kill, this entire chase sequence still works as five or so minutes of pulse pounding action sure to leave a lasting impression on moviegoers. 3) "Martha" The way the battle between Batman and Superman wraps up has proven to be very divisive, with some arguing that this was a moment which didn't feel earned and others seemingly failing to understand the fact that this simple revelation helped the Dark Knight to understand that the Man of Steel really is...well, a man. Regardless, I think Snyder handled this moment well, and after being plagued with nightmares about his mother, it makes perfect sense that the hero would have such an extreme reaction to hearing her name. Batman then promising to save Clark's mother also worked and helped to create the beginnings of a sure to be lasting friendship between these two heroes. 2) Confrontation With Lex Luthor Like that Knightmare sequence, Zack Snyder shot the epilogue with IMAX cameras, and if nothing else, the confrontation between Batman and Lex Luthor in that prison cell looks downright amazing. Despite being brief, the intensity Ben Affleck exudes here is awesome as you can almost feel his hatred for the villain coming through the screen. The really interesting thing here though is the fact that he doesn't brand Lex, a sign perhaps that his interactions with Superman have helped Batman move past the very dark point he reached after spending twenty years in Gotham fighting a losing battle against crime. 1) Batman Beats Superman The entire battle between Batman and Superman alone is worth the price of a cinema ticket, but make no mistake about it; this sequence belongs to The Batman. The Dark Knight outsmarts the Man of Steel throughout, and it quickly becomes apparent that he's planned the whole thing out like the master strategist he is when they end up by that Kryptonite spear. Call me biased, but the fact that Batman is the one to emerge triumphant is also very cool; he may just be a man, but a combination of Kryptonite (used to great effect here) and his superior fighting skills prove he'll always come out on top when these two heroes go to war. It remains to be seen whether we'll get a rematch, but I'd place money on Batman if it happens...wouldn't you?
