Tom Cruise may have turned down the role of Hal Jordan in Green Lantern Corps, but that hasn’t stopped many a fan from placing the power ring on the three-time Academy Award nominee’s finger.

Late last year, a blind item pegged the Mission: Impossible – Fallout star as the top choice to play Jordan in the superhero pic. Unfortunately, we were then told that Cruise had apparently passed on the role and, furthermore, we learned that the one caveat keeping him from taking the gig was the script.

Apparently, Warner Bros. wanted to kill Jordan off at some point in the film, which Tom didn’t like. He demanded they change it but they didn’t and so, he walked. But according to sources close to We Got This Covered, WB still wants Cruise for the role, with the actor said to be unsure of whether or not he wants to sign on at the moment.

It’s unclear if the studio is willing to change the script now and keep Jordan alive, but we’re being told that Tom is who they want. And if they’re unable to get him, then they have other “A-list” stars in mind. Though who those may be is currently unknown.

Hopefully, Warner Bros. and Tom Cruise can come to some kind of agreement, as casting him would no doubt lead to a more mature and experienced take on Hal Jordan, who was originally brought to life by Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds several years ago. But this time around, Jordan is set to team up with his spacefaring ally, John Stewart, for what’s said to be a buddy cop movie in the vein of Guardians of the Galaxy.

As for when we may finally hear something concrete on Green Lantern Corps, well, it seems to be stuck in development hell at the moment – despite having been given a tentative release date of July 24th, 2020 – but from what we understand, Warner Bros. still has every intention of making it and with any luck, they’ll be ready to move forward with it sooner rather than later.
