While we all hear the title Closed Circuit and hope it means that we’re finally getting a Short Circuit threequel, alas we’re not. Nope, Johnny 5 won’t be taking on terrorists in this upcoming thriller from director John Crawley. Luckily, Eric Bana is on the case and you can check out his mixed accent and broodiness in the latest trailer, below.
Bana plays a high profile lawyer who together with his ex-girlfriend, played by Rebecca Hall, finds himself on the defense team for a terrorism suspect. With a starry cast in tow the trailer points towards the flick being an intelligent alternative to the usual popcorn fare offered up during the summer season. Joining Bana and Hall are Ciaran Hinds, Jim Broadbent, Anne-Marie Duff, Julia Stiles, Riz Ahmed, Kenneth Cranham and Denis Moschitto.
The preview is a smidgen spoilery. Littered with shady encounters on park benches Closed Circuit comes across like The Bourne Identity meets Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Thankfully the Bourne influence extends past the inclusion of Stiles in the cast. The trailer’s glimpse at action looks set to propel this Brit flick into the orbit of a more commercial audience, compared to Tinker, Tailor. We all love a cerebral spy caper, but throw in a few car chases and you’ll capture a bigger grab of cinemagoers.
