Because one comic book movie franchise (Guardians of the Galaxy) isn’t enough, Zoe Saldana – who is of course also a prominent part of the Star Trek franchise – has now joined the cast of I Kill Giants. Academy Award winning short film director Anders Walter (Helium) is set to helm the graphic novel adaptation, while Chris Columbus (Harry Potter) is producing.
The I Kill Giants graphic novel was written by Joe Kelly (Deadpool), and follows Barbara, a misfit who battles both real and imaginary monsters. Saldana is set to play her school psychologist Mrs. Mollé. The two characters apparently form a bond, and Mollé ends up helping the youngster take on those monsters.
Taking on the role of Barbara will be Madison Wolfe, a young actress who made an appearance in the first season of True Detective and will next be seen in David O. Russell’s Joy starring Jennifer Lawrence. She was chosen after a nationwide search of over 500 actresses, and the studio describes her as, “an extraordinary young actress” who they are “thrilled” to have as part of the cast.
“I’m thrilled to have the massively talented Zoe helping us bring Joe Kelly’s beautiful story to life,” Walter said in the press release. “I couldn’t be more excited to see Mrs. Mollé, a kind, strong and incredibly inspirational character up on the big screen.”
No release date has been announced yet, but I Kill Giants will begin production early next year.
