The latest hit show from producer Jerry Bruckheimer features some great music. From slow country ballads to fast-paced, fresh-sounding rock, the soundtrack to season 1 of Fire Country has been memorable. The series follows the adventures of Bode Donovan (Max Thieriot), a repentant prison inmate looking to turn his life around. He gets offered a reduced sentence by joining a firefighting program, teaming up with a group of elite firefighters to tackle dangerous blazes across Northern California.
Here are the stand-out tracks we’ve heard in the show so far. While some are classic hits from the golden age of music, others are less well-known but equally interesting.
“Dirt Road Nights”
Originally known as The Cadillac Black, The Cadillac Three hail from the eternal home of Country and Western music – Nashville, Tennessee. But this Southern trio specializes in putting a hard rock take on a classic sound. “Dirt Road Nights” is a great example, mixing fresh shoegaze elements with a strong country feel.
“Hangin’ On”
Western Youth is a little-known band, but they have produced some cool-sounding music. “Hangin’ On” is one of the best examples of their style, combining country vocals with heavy English-style riffs and solos.
“Ring of Fire”
The legendary Johnny Cash did the original version of “Ring of Fire.” Country musician Matthew Mayfield did a great cover back in 2012. Slower and softer than the original, it ranks well with Cash’s immortal version. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Mayfield was originally the lead singer in the group, Moses Mayfield. After breaking out with a solo career, he has brought his acoustic and vocal talents to a number of hits.
“Crashlanded”
Madeline Edwards is producing an array of fresh new country sounds. The native Texan brings together pop, rock, and Southern soul elements into a powerful sound. Crashlanded is a great anthem.
“You Are The Best Thing”
Ray LaMontagne exploded onto the music scene in 2004 with his debut album, Trouble. Since then, he has become a phenomenon. With a unique, deep singing style, Lamontagne combines some country with lots of blues, soul, and folk.
“Have You Ever Seen the Rain”
Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) was one of the greatest bands of the sixties and seventies. They spawned a slew of immortal hits including “Fortunate Son” and “Bad Moon Rising.” “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” peaked at number one on the Canadian charts in 1971. In March 2023, the song broke one billion streams on Spotify. For a show about firefighters taking on the biggest blazes California has to offer, few songs fit better than this one.
