Hey Violet Release Electropop Single “Guys My Age”

Hot on the heels of releasing a new EP, Brand New Moves, in August, Hey Violet is back at it again with even newer music, this time in the form of the single, “Guys My Age.” Though co-written by One Direction collaborator Julian Bunetta, it’s hardly a recreation of something 1D would do, but instead follows, stylistically, in the same path as their EP.

Hey Violet came out with their I Can Feel It EP last year, and after signing to 5 Seconds of Summer’s Hi Or Hey Records, it had a pop-punk nature to it that fit perfectly on stage with 5 Seconds of Summer. The two toured together all throughout the “Sounds Live Feels Live” world tour, but now, it seems as though Hey Violet are taking their sound into a genre that suits them a little better.

“Guys My Age” is beat-heavy and even Tove Lo-esque, as an R&B presence is prevalent throughout the track. Hey Violet basically went from sounding like 5 Seconds of Summer with female vocals into a band that improves on what we typically hear from the likes of Melanie Martinez and Halsey.

The band is going to wrap up their dates with 5 Seconds of Summer in just a couple weeks, and with a such a drastic change in sound over the past few months, you have to wonder if this may be the last time we see them touring together. This tour undoubtedly improved the fanbase of Hey Violet, so it might make sense for them to branch out and take this new following into a headlining tour of their own.
