System Of A Down And Deftones Rock North America This Summer

Alt-metal masters System Of A Down and the Deftones are going to team up this summer for a short two-week tour down eastern United States and Canada. Even though only nine dates have been announced, it’s always good news to hear that these two awesome bands are back on the road.

System Of A Down notably went on hiatus back in 2006 but have reunited last year for a tour of Western North America as well as doing a few shows in South America and Europe. This year they decided to pay the eastern portion of North America a visit. No word on whether they will be playing any new material since the last thing they released were 2005’s Mezmerize and Hypnotize albums.

Deftones on the other hand has been feverishly working and recording a new album that they believe will come out early fall of this year. Hopefully we’ll get a taste of that upcoming record. Their last record Diamond Eyes was released in 2010 and was named “Rock Album of the Year” by the iTunes Store.

Tickets pre-sales begin May 1st, 2012 at 10 AM local time. Sign up with either SOAD or Deftones‘s mailing list (via their websites) to receive pre-sale information.

Two of my favourite bands (Deftones are basically at the top of that list.) I might end up going to see them both at Heavy T.O. along with Slipknot and Marilyn Manson. However, I’m cheap.

Both bands are really good live though. I’ve seen SOAD twice and Deftones a few times.

Deftones are amazing and I am saddened that I only got into them in the last few years.

BTW, the Heavy T.O. lineup is ridiculously good

One of my best friends introduced me to them when we were in high school. So, maybe 9 years ago now. He was a big fan, but I had a hard time getting into them at that time, and preferred koRn (still one of my favourite bands.) However, over the last several years, I’ve been listening to them more and more, and they’ve become one of my favourite bands…if not #1.

Passenger would have to be my favourite Deftones song, but I like a ton of ’em. Diamond Eyes had a lot of good stuff on it, and I can’t wait for the new album. Beauty School and Risk were amazing from that release.

The first time I was Deftones was in Toronto, back in 2003. They were part of the Summer Sanitarium Tour with Metallica, Limp Bizkit, Mudvayne (another favourite) and Linkin Park. I’m not much of a Metallica fan, but liked them more back then. The others, I’ve been a fan of throughout the years…except for LB’s latest stuff and Linkin Park’s emo stuff. Their first two albums were really good, though.

At that time, I wasn’t a fan, and they weren’t that good live. However, I’ve seen them two times since, and they’ve been much improved. Once with koRn, and then several years ago at Wakestock, a wakeboarding tournament held in Toronto.

The Heavy T.O. line-up is quite impressive. Though, to be honest, I’m more into melodic nu-metal than anything heavier. The heaviest music I listen to would be In Flames, and I like them quite a bit. From that list, the four bands I listed in my last comment are who I’d go to see. Then again, Five Finger Death Punch also has some really good songs.

In the end, it’ll depend on how cheap I end up being. I’ve seen them all before at least once (Five Finger and Manson just once,) but the line-up is really good. It’s a shame it’s spread over two days though, because I don’t live in the city.
